Jewelry Care
STERLING SILVER CARE
Here are some tips to keep your piece in great shape for many years:
*Wear your sterling silver jewelry daily as your natural body oils prevent it from tarnishing.
*Dry silver is happy silver! Remove when at the beach, pool, spa, hot springs, or when showering.
*No chemicals please. Avoid contact with perfumes, cleaning products, abrasives, and sharp objects.
*Store in a cool and dry place, preferably in a sealed plastic baggie.
*Tarnish is natural. All sterling silver will need to be cleaned periodically.
*Polish it pretty. Use a polishing cloth or pad to brighten the silver. For more stubborn tarnish, use mild soap and a gentle sponge or soft toothbrush.
STONE CARE
I list the Mohl's hardness to all the stones in my jewelry collection, some are extra soft like Amber and special care is listed below. For most other stones simply follow these 5 steps. Remember to be aware when wearing stone bracelets and rings as they can be damaged by hitting hard or abrasive surfaces.
-
Use a soft microfiber cloth to regularly wipe and clear away dirt and dust from your gemstone jewelry.
-
For a deeper clean, you can use a non-abrasive jewelry cleaner. Alternatively, a homemade jewelry cleaner made of warm water mixed with a few drops of mild soap works just as well.
-
To clean your gemstones, immerse the jewelry in your cleaning solution and scrub it gently with a soft brush. A toothbrush with extra-soft bristles is a good option.
-
Dip the jewelry back into the solution, rinse with warm water and dry with a microfiber cloth.
-
Store your stone jewelry in a soft cloth or away from other stones or jewelry that may scratch or damage your stones.
AMBER CARE
Amber is actually fossilized pine resin over 20 million years old.
*Store your Amber Jewelry in a soft pouch to avoid getting scratched by other jewelry.
*Clean with a soft flannel cloth and lukewarm water, dry carefully, lightly polish with clear olive oil, and then remove any excess oil and restore the polish with another soft cloth.
*Avoid perfume or hairspray, commercial cleaning solutions.
*Avoid extreme temperatures and don't leave in direct sunlight.
*Remember to be careful when cleaning. Amber has an approximately Mohs Hardness of 2.5, which means it's a very soft gemstone, and can be scratched.
Ambers color may also change over time.
If you follow these easy guidelines, your Amber jewelry will reward you with a lifetime of service and wonder and will stay always beautiful.
